When I bake, I like to listen to music. And my favorite music to listen to would have to be Disney, but John Denver is definitely my second favorite;) Anyway, I was making apple bread today--recipe coming soon on Picture This--and I decided that I wanted to do a series of Disney posts. This one will be songs, then there will be the princesses and their voices and then some more songs:) I hope you enjoy!
Colors of the Wind
You think I'm an ignorant savage,
And you've been so many places, I guess it must be so,
But still I cannot see, if the savage one is me
How can there be so much that you don't know? You don't know........
You think you own whatever land you land on,
The earth is just a dead thing you can claim;
But I know every rock and tree and creature,
Has a life, has a spirit, has a name.
You think the only people who are people,
Are the people who look and think like you;
But if you walk the footsteps of a stranger,
You find things you never knew you never knew
Have you ever heard the wolf cry to the blue corn moon,
Or asked the grinning bobcat why he grinned;
Can you sing with all the voices of the mountain,
Can you paint with all the colors of the wind,
Can you paint with all the colors of the wind.
Come run the hidden pine trails of the forest,
Come taste the sunsweet berries of the Earth;
Come roll in all the riches all around you,
And for once, never wonder what they're worth.
The rainstorm and the river are my brothers,
The heron and the otter are my friends;
And we are all connected to each other,
In a circle, in a hoop that never ends.
How high will a sycamore grow,
If you cut it down, then you'll never know;
And you'll never hear the wolf cry to the blue corn moon,
For whether we are white or copper skinned,
We need to sing with all the voices of the mountain,
We need to paint with all the colors of the wind,
You can own the Earth, and still,
All you own is Earth until,
You can paint with all the colors, of the wind
Colors of the Wind
When will My Life begin
Seven AM, the usual morning lineup
Start on the chores and sweep 'till the floors all clean
Polish and wax, do laundry and mop and shine up
Sweep again and by then, it's like seven-fifteen
And so I'll read a book, or maybe two or three
I'll add a few new paintings to my gallery
I'll play guitar and knit, and cook and basically
Just wonder when will my life begin
Then after lunch it's puzzles and darts and baking
Paper mache, a bit of ballet and chess
Pottery and ventriloquy, candle making
Then I'll stretch, maybe sketch, take a climb, sew a dress!
And I'll reread the books, if I have time to spare
I'll paint the walls some more, I'm sure there's room somewhere
And then I'll brush and brush, and brush and brush my hair
Stuck in the same place I've always been
And I'll keep wondering, and wondering
And wondering and wondering
When will my life begin?
Tomorrow night, the lights will appear
Just like they do on my birthday, each year
What is it like, out there where they glow
Now that I'm older, Mother might just, let me go
When will My Life Begin
I'll Make a Man out of You
Let's get down to business,to defeat, the Huns
Did they send me daughters, when I asked, for sons?
You're the saddest bunch I ever met, but you can bet, before we're through
Mister, I'll make a man, out of you
Tranquil as a forest, but a fire, within
Once you find your center, you are sure, to win
You're a spineless pail, pathetic lot
And you haven't got a clue
Somehow I'll, make a man, out of you
I'm never gonna catch my breath; say goodbye to those who knew me
Boy, was I a fool in school for cutting gym
This guys got 'em scared to death; hope he doesn't see right through me
Now I really wish that I knew how to swim!
Be a man; you must be swift as a coursing river
Be a man; with all the force of a great typhoon
Be a man; with all the strength of a raging fire
Mysterious as the dark side of the moon
Time is racing toward us, till the Huns, arrive
Head my every order, and you might, survive
You're unsuited for, the rage of war, so pack up, go home, you're through
How could I, make a man, out of you?
Be a man; you must be swift as a coursing river
Be a man; with all the force of a great typhoon
Be a man; with all the strength of a raging fire
Mysterious as the dark side of the moon
Be a man; you must be swift as a coursing river
Be a man; with all the force of a great typhoon
Be a man; with all the strength of a raging fire
Mysterious as the dark side of the moon
I'll Make a Man out of You
Tale As Old As Time
Tale as old as time, tune as old as song
Barely even friends, then somebody bends,
Unexpectedly
Just a little change, small to say the least
Both a little scared, neither one prepared
Beauty and the Beast
Ever just the same, ever a surprise
Ever as before, ever just as sure
As the sun will rise
Tale as old as time, tune as old as song
Bittersweet and strange, finding you can change
Learning you were wrong
Certain as the Sun, rising in the East
Tale as old as time, song as old as rhyme
Beauty and the Beast
Tale as old as time, song as old as rhyme
Beauty and the Beast
Tale As Old As Time
Once Upon a December--one of my favorites
Dancing bears, painted wings
Things I almost remember
And a song, someone sings
Once upon a December
Someone holds me safe and warm
Horses prance through a silver storm
Figures dancing gracefully
Across my memory
(Sing ahhh with the melody)
Someone holds me safe and warm
Horses prance through a silver storm
Figures dancing gracefully
Across my memory
Far away, long ago
Glowing dim as an ember
Things my heart used to know
Once upon a December
Someone holds me safe and warm
Horses prance through a silver storm
Figures dancing gracefully
Across my memory
Far away, long ago
Glowing dim as an ember
Things my heart used to know
Things it yearns to remember
And a song someone sings
Once upon a December

Oh! I haven't seen the movie "Pocahontas" before. Is it good? Or worth watching? :)
I love to listen to music too while I bake! But even better, I love listening to audio books even more! :D
Great post, Emma!
