Jewels of the World~Preview

Hi guys! Recently, I had a great idea for a short book series for younger girls--more on the actual theme later--but I want to give you guys a preview of the first book!

Jewels of the World
The Beginning
By Emma Masse

                         Chapter One
                   Grandma’s House

Opal Sanders stepped through the door of her grandmother’s cottage and took a deep breath. Lilac, vanilla, perfume and fresh country air filled her nostrils. Opal was visiting her grandmother for two days, and there was no place in the world that she loved more than her Grandma’s house. A small cottage, faraway from the blinking city lights, close to the open country that Opal and her Grandma loved so much. A cottage large enough to fit only ten, but which had love for hundreds. The door opened to a dining area, a rustic country kitchen, the family room, or ‘The Memory Room’, as her Grandma called it, a bathroom, Grandma’s bedroom and two spare bedrooms. There was no second floor, except for a small flights of stairs leading to a dusty attic, filled with memories that her grandmother would remember on rainy days-spending hours and hours looking through boxes and scrapbooks. Her Grandma herself was a story book grandmother. Rosy cheeks, sparkling eyes, bouncing white curls, and a wardrobe that remained in days of long ago. Here came Grandma now. Opal was pulled into a hug which always made her remember all the good times she had spent with her grandmother in her twelve years. Her grandmother stepped back and looked at her. “Opal Pearl...look at you! You look so beautiful!” “Really?” Opal said to herself, looking down at her patched jean shorts and t-shirt. “My, you’ve grown a foot!” Grandma exclaimed.

I hope you enjoyed this preview!

LHBP~2014

Once again, it's time for Kellie's annual Literary Heroine Blog Party! I'm so excited this year, since I can be more 'involved' since I have completed 'Emma' and Northanger Abbey'. So here are my answers.

Introduce yourself! Divulge your life's vision, likes, dislikes, aspirations, or something completely random!
Hi! I'm Emma, or Emma Margaret as I'm known on my other blog:) I'm eleven years old, sister, niece, daughter, cousin, crocheter, pianist, flautist, reader, crafter, baker and-hope-to-be registered nurse, mother, be thought of as the 'cool aunt' and the grandma's house that everyone wants to go to. Random fact? I have five siblings, three of which are boys and four girl cousins!

What, to you, forms the essence of a true heroine?
    She is kind, graceful{but not too perfect!}, almost fearless, gentle, loves everyone and is lovable herself, is faithful, trustworthy, but, she doesn't have to have perfect skin, no freckles, flowing hair, or amazingly thin. {if you do have freckles, try lemon juice, it works wonders:)}

Share {up to} four heroines of literature that you most admire and relate to.
Probably Emma{coincidence, you say?} and Anne. I admire Miss Lavender in Anne, even though she isn't really pictured as a heroine:)

Five of your favorite historical novels.
 Little Women
Anne of Green Gables----and yes, it CAN count:)
Son of Charlemagne
A Proud Taste for Scarlet and Miniver
Mail Order Bride series

Out of those five books who is your favorite main character and why?
Um, Anne...................duh. Do I really need to say why??:)

Out of those five books who is your favorite secondary character and why?
Oh dear. Can I choose one from each book??:) Hmm......I think it would have to be......Susan from Anne's House of Dreams and Anne of Ingleside:) Not my favorite character from the whole series, but just when she comes into the books. She is frank, generous, giving, loving and loves her adored 'family' and can't stand it when one is hurt or depressed. Also, her reaction to Aunt Mary Maria is such a fun few chapters to read through:) 'And Aunt Mary Maria never knew how close she was to having the gravy boat and it's contents thrown at her head'.

If you were to plan out your dream vacation, where would you travel to-and what would you plan to do there?
Hmm.....I would love to go to Prince Edward Island, and that's where I hope to go someday for my honeymoon:) But if I could choose now, I would want to go to St. John, Allagash or Camden again:)

What is your favorite time period and culture to read about?
Hmm...I really like everything!:)

You have been invited to perform at a local charity concert. Singing, comedy, recitation-what is your act comprised of?
Hmm....probably music:)

If you were to attend a party where each guest was to portray a heroine of literature, who would you select to represent?
Can you guess?? YES! Anne:)

What are your sentiments on the subject of chocolate?
There is nothing in this world better than chocolate. I love dark chocolate best, milk second, and white chocolate is gross!

Favorite authors?
Janette Oke~Jan Karon~ Jane Austen~The Bronte Sisters~

Besides essentials, what would you take on a visiting voyage to a foreign land.
Camera, books, a friend and chocolate

In which century were most of the books you read written?
Mostly 19th and 20th

In your opinion, the ultimate hero in literature is.........
Hmmm...........Wynn Delaney from the Canadian West series

Describe your ideal dwelling place.
Anne's House of Dreams

Sum up your fashion style in a short sentence.
Anything I can find

Have you ever wanted to change a character's name?
Not really. They wouldn't be the same with different names!

In your opinion, the most dastardly villain of literature is.......
Hmmm.........I'm not sure!

Three favorite non-fiction books?
The Trapp Family Singers
Louisa May Alcott:A Biography
The Bible

Your duties met for the day, how would you choose to spend a carefree summer afternoon?
Hmm...probably reading or baking

Create a verbal sketch of your dream hat-in such a way that will best portray your character.
Something much like this

Shabby Chic hat. Take an old straw hat, spray-paint it with white Flower spray to give it a even matt finish, let it dry and decorate with strips of lace and ribbons and add a silk rose or to to finish it off. Let it rest on your bed on chair to give the decor that extra bit of touch.

Share the most significant event{s} that have marked your life in the past year.
Hmm......spending a lot more time with my family!

Share the Bible passage{s} that have been most inspiring to you lately.
Hmmmm...........Proverbs 30-31
